Welcome to

Pilgrimage

This is a four module course designed to give pilgrimage participants an opportunity to explore incarnational spiritual practices in preparation for the journey of pilgrimage.

This course is curated by Andrea Lingle, writer, editor, and lay-theologian for the Missional Wisdom Foundation. To contact her, email alingle@missionalwisdom.com.

Please introduce yourself!

Learning Objectives:

Participants will:

  • Begin to explore different spiritual practices as tools to use along the way of pilgrimage.

  • Consider the importance of incarnation and how we choose to be embodied or disembodied.

  • Learn to intentionally encounter those whom we meet along the way in a spirit of compassion.

  • Discover that there is power in the walking; there is depth in the journey; becoming a pilgrim is to trust that there is work being done along the way.

  • Find new ways to employ spiritual imagination to give the pilgrim a posture of wonder.

Required texts:

The Rebirthing of God, by John Philip Newell

Simple Harmony, Larry Duggins

Course Design:

Each of the four modules includes a four day liturgy. Participants can complete the modules at their own pace, but are asked to have the modules completed by departure. Each liturgy includes prayers, readings, and spiritual practices. The first readings are scriptures that speak to the module’s theme. Participants are encouraged to read the passages in the translation they most deeply resonate with. The second readings are from the course texts. The first three days of the second readings are taken from the Newell book. As the chapters are longer, participants can choose to break up the chapters over those days as desired.

At the completion of the modules, participants should have experienced the examen, lectio divina, breath prayers, a walking mantra, meditation, and scriptural imagination. The modules are independent and can be used in any order.

There is space at the bottom of each page for comments, questions, and discussion. Please do not leave logistical questions on these pages as they might not get communicated to the correct person. Thanks!
